Communications Strategist

Looking to make a mark in gaming culture? LA based or willing to make your way to the coast? Let’s chat.

The Story Mob is the world’s leading international communications consultancy focused on gaming culture, competitive esports and digital entertainment. We work with brands, teams and publishers to shape meaningful communications and engage in authentic conversations with gaming fans. This is the most exciting and fastest growing culture in the world - and communications are helping mold the future of it.

We’re a hungry and ambitious company, where each team member wears a lot of hats and the ceiling for growth is, well... sky-high. Our culture is open-minded, fast and flexible. Great ideas are celebrated, especially if you’re open to helping execute them or learning the skills to get them off the ground.

We are specifically looking for candidates with demographic identities or life experiences that add different perspectives to our work. So we encourage any individuals who identify as Black, indigenous, persons of color (BIPOC), women, low SES, or disabled to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard for race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, genetic information, marital status, or any other basis prohibited by law.

So, if you’re an ambitious comms pro and excited about gaming, this could be your opportunity to join the world’s first group of gaming-focused communication leaders.

Here’s what you’ll be doing

  • Work with our broader team to brainstorm, develop and execute communications strategies
  • Help your colleagues stay up-to-date on industry trends, communication best practices and emerging tools or platforms

Client relations

  • Manage and maintain weekly/monthly activity reports

Creative storytelling

Other tasks

  • Work alongside the co-founders on new business, including sourcing potential leads, attending industry events, designing pitches and seeing new client proposals through till the end
  • Light admin work that comes from your own clients, i.e. working with our accounting team on invoicing, and our legal team on contracts
  • Train and mentor junior team members

About you

You’re a connector

We’re looking for natural storytellers who have a history of working with media. You’ll catch our attention if you have experience working within esports - but being a passionate gamer is also a big plus.

This isn’t your first rodeo

We’re looking for seasoned vets with 4-5 years of PR or media experience and the journalist connections and strategic know-how to prove it. You’ve worked consistently with media during your career and are equally at home developing a 12-month communications plan and presenting it to clients.

You want to go beyond the traditional media relations churn

Esports isn’t the place for ‘throw as much spaghetti at the wall as you can’ pitching. We’re looking for pros who will build a relationship with media and understand when they’re the best channel to achieve the goal - not just seek out column inches at any cost.

You have a passion for or an interest in esports

Whether you’re a communications pro looking for a switch, or an esports veteran with passion for PR and storytelling, we’d be excited to talk to you. In turn, you must be excited to get your hands dirty, sit front row at some badass esports events, and immerse yourself in our world completely.

You are flexible

We work from three different countries and across even more timezones. While the LA office is starting to return to the office, we are developing a schedule that provides our employees a bit of flexibility. We’ll want to work with you on a setup that delivers against both of our needs.

Our offer

  • Competitive salary, fitting your experience and skill set with bi-annual checks and reviews
  • Employee enrichment program, inclusive of personal development budget
  • The right hardware that works the way you prefer
  • Unlimited PTO for a sane and balanced approach to work and life
  • Collaborative approach to building teams that support you and the kind of work you want to go after
  • Mentorship and support from some of the most experienced minds in the space and the opportunity to work on leading brands in gaming

PLEASE NOTE: We will only process applications that are sent to jobs@thestorymob.com with a resume and cover letter attached.
